The Role of Indonesian Catholic Church in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals

Abstrack:

The Catholic Church (Vatican) which has diplomatic relations with the United Nations and with other nations sees that the establishment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is a sign of collective responsibility to uphold the principles of human dignity, equality and equity at the global level. The Indonesian Catholic Church as one part of the Catholic Church participates by supporting and actively engaging in delivering the millennium development goals (MDGs). In its efforts the Indonesian Catholic Church uses these four principles ? human dignity, the common good, subsidiarity and solidarity. The Indonesian Catholic Church uses all of its resources (foundations, religious congregations and Catholic faith based NGOs) to reach the MDGs through various activities including spiritual and practical activities. It also encourages its people to build local communities so that not only the MGDs are reached but also the local communities become sustainable.
