Memunculkan Narasi yang Berbeda : Dinamika Kekuasaan dalam Komunitas Jazz Yogyakarta 2002-2010

Abstrack:

Previous studies about jazz in Indonesia tend to generalize and hold a bias against narrative from the center. They also do not see the different narrative from micro scope. Using the Yogyakarta jazz community as an entry point, this study want to show that during 2002-2010, different narrative happened. In 2002-2006 the Gadjah Wong community dominated jazz communities in Yogyakarta, Gadjah Wong employed a strategy of building a dominant discourse about a standart jazz to dominate the communities. The main reason for maintaining this dominant discourse was so that it could hold the annual event, Jazz Gayeng in Yogyakarta. In 2007, the dominant position was taken over by Samirono community as a representation of fusion jazz. They began to dominate through the support of an agent from outside the jazz community. Samirono as the dominant community is trying to maintain its position through building discourse about open jazz. The main goal is to make sure that the annual event Ngayogjazz happens.
