Green Office Lighting with Hybrid Photovoltaics (PV) System At Office ofPertamina Oil Fuel Terminal (TBBM) Rewulu

Abstrack:

Global warming ischallanging problem that need to be solved. One of the main challange in the global warming issueis reducing the carbon emitted to the atmosphere trough substituting fossil fuel by the green energy source. The geographical position of Indonesia which is located in the equatorial regions gives great potential for utilization of solar energy. This research was conducted to combine a conventional electricity source provided by the PLN with a photovoltaics(PV) systemas a Hybrid PV system. In this system the PV system acts as main power, whilethe electricity from the PLN as a backup power in office of the Pertamina Oil Fuel Terminal (TBBM) Rewulu, Yogyakarta. A Hybrid Solar Power System unit was designed to powermaximum 60 pieces of lamps with 9 watt power each. The designed system should be able to work 8 hours/day. The installed hybrid solar power system consists of 12 piece PV panel(@135watt peak), 80A MPPT solar charge controller, 2kW sine power inverter, 8 units 12V100Ah batteries, and a hybrid controller. It was designed with 80% efficiency due to loss of thePV system component. The measurement of the system have been conducted on the July 14th-20th 2014. The result showed that the minimum energy produced in acloudy situation PV at 15th July was 4.1 kWh,whereas on a sunny day at 17th July was up to 8.6 kWh, and energy rate on one week was 6.38kWh. The energy consumption for the lamps was 5.3 kWh per day, so in the sunny day the hybrid system is be able to fulfillthe energy demand. However, in the cloudy day the PV system is be able to supply merely a part of energy needed. Total annual electric energy that can be produced by the system was 2.061kWh/year. It givesannualy1.494 metric tons CO2reduction. read more

Abstrack:

Nowadays science of genetics has grown rapidly especially in the field of health. This condition makes all health care providers must be prepared to follow these developments in order to provide better service to clients. Nurses as one part of the health services, are also required to be able to apply these genetics into nursing services to their clients. But in reality, based on a survey conducted in 2013 about knowledge and readiness of nursing students and clinical nurses to genetics shows the results that their knowledge are still lacking. Therefore, it is necessary to provide effective courses to increase knowledge of nursing students and clinical nurses about genetics. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of genetic course that has been given to nursing students and clinical nurses. The study involved two groups of respondents that are comprised of a group of nursing students and clinical nurses group. Each group consisted of 30 members of the group. Each group received genetic course for 36 hours taken within 6 days. The level of knowledge about genetics is measured before and after course using a questionnaire that has been developed by Maradigue in 2005. The results of this study showed significant changes in knowledge before and after the implementation of the course among nursing students with p = 0,000. Similarly, the clinical nurses group also showed significant changes in the knowledge with p = 0.000. However, changes in the knowledge of the two treatment groups was also significantly different, with increased knowledge of nursing students better than the improvement of knowledge clinical nurses (p = 0.033). This study showed that nursing students or nurses will have better understanding about genetics if they were introduced from the beginning. read more

In search of Dar-us-Salaam: Ethno-religious Insurgency in Southern Thailand

Abstrack:

This article will examine an ethno-religious insurgency that aspires to create an Islamic state (Dar-us-Salaam) in Southern Thailand. The increasing Salafism-Wahhabism has spawned the growth of many insurgents and terrorist organizations that consider their violent campaigns as ?jihad? against the forces of unbelief. Salafism-Wahhabism is a fundamentalist movement seeking to purify the Muslim spirit and eradicate all innovations to Islam. It is responsible for the violence that Western countries and Middle Eastern states have been experienced for the past two decades. Furthermore, the Southern Thailand insurgents are mostly members of religious organizations with strong attachments to Salafi-Wahhabi ideology. Salafism-Wahhabism shares an excessive intolerance towards infidels and a strong tendency to label Muslims who disagree with their understandings of Islam as betrayers. It is seen as a key element of re-radicalisation in order to maintain the insurgents? political objective to convert Southern Thailand into an independent Islamic State. Although the creation of an Islamic State has not gained traction nationwide, it can be fitted in the forms of good governance, law enforcement and development programs implemented by the Thai government. This may contribute to the appropriate means to lessen socio-economic disparities, raise political- participation and decrease fear and distrust of security forces among the local population in Southern Thailand. Therefore, the arrangements created by the government need to be built on legitimacy and the awareness of the troubled history of the region from both sides. read more

Mission in the Context of Globalization

Abstrack:

We live in an unprecedented moment in the 21st century, considered the most civilised moment of our time. Yet looking back to the stone age, where there was less development, people lived in community, sharing what they had. There was little looting and craving for more. Today man has become greedy, ready to sacrifice his/her fellow human for his/her satisfaction. In my discussion on the ministry of the church in the context of globalization, I will address four specific areas: a) What is globalization? b) Why should the church be concerned about it? c) What should the mission of the church be in the midst of economic globalization? d) How can the church create a counter-culture against economic globalization? read more

The Impact of State Religious Policies on Christian Women?s Leadership Status in Vietnam: The Case of The Evangelical Church of Vietnam Since 1975

Abstrack:

This paper contributes to feminist critique of multiculturalism by presenting the complexity of the relationship between the state and religion and women in the context of Vietnam. By taking the Evangelical Church of Vietnam as a case study, the paper argues that the assumption of equal rights and citizenship status of all women in the wider society according to the liberal model of multiculturalism cannot be applied in Vietnam since the state religious policies in this country play a significant role in the double reduction of Christian women?s rights and status in terms of public leadership first in the wider society and second in the religious community itself. Key terms: women leadership, state religious policies, multiculturalism, the Evangelical Church of Vietnam. read more

Restorative Justice A Principle to Resolve Conflict

Abstrack:

Justice is usually understood as rendering to each person or community their own and due by right. It implies that someone will get reward of his or her good act, and punishment of his or her wrongdoing. Reward and punishment are fairly the consequence of someone?s action. But, in the context of building peaceful living which emphasizes the restoration of the conflicting communities, such understanding about punishment is no more compatible. The restorative justice theory, according to me, suggests a principle which is more appropriate to cope with conflicts, violences, and wars which decorate the human world recent days. It offers the paradigm about crime and punishment in the context of building peace and reconciliation. Crime is not law breaking or, in the middle era, breaking the divine order of the universe. Crime is an action which affects the victim, the community, and the actor himself/herself. With this paradigm, then, it considers punishment is not relevant just beecause it is the consequence of someone?s act. The most important one is how to restore the victim, the perpetrator, and the community affected by the crime. Therefore, the judicial process in the court is not relevant as well. The conference which involves the three sides of the victim, the perpetrator, and the community is suggested for the restoration of all sides affected by the wrongdoing. read more

Managing Primordialism in Maluku, Towards Conflict Prevention and A Better Social Life

Abstrack:

History has proven that despite different religious identity labels, people have been able to live in harmony, and sharing care and love with each other. The life story of Domminggus Willem Syaranamual who was struggling against separatism in Maluku till the end of his life and died on the caring hand of Muhammad Malawat and his family in Mamala village illustrates this point. Primordialism was the basic idea to utilize religion as a reason for a massive rebellion in many places in Maluku for around 3 years starting in January 1999. Almost all aspects of a harmonic interaction between people has been broken since then. The Malino Agreement proved to be the momentum for a ?ceasefire? and the termination of physical confrontation between the conflicting communities. However, the impact of the conflict still remains. It is argued that dichotomies fertilize primordialism. This paper employs a couple of cases to study the penetration of primordial practices in Ambon (Maluku). As a former conflict area, these primordial ways of thinking must be managed in an appropriate conflict-prevention strategy for the sake of people welfare, if we do not want the time bomb to explode sometime in the future. Golden time and story that Maluku used to be a land where tolerance and love across religions was cultivated must be succeeded again. read more

Ethnic Conflict Theory, Religiosity, and Cultural Bond: Approach to Resolve Religious Intolerance in Ambon

Abstrack:

This study tries to investigate religious intolerance, namely intergroup contact avoidance in Ambon by using i.e. ethnic conflict theory, religiosity, and local wisdom. Ethnic group conflict theory suggests that ethnic and religious identification are more likely related to religious exclusionism due to perceived group threat. Intrinsic religious values and local wisdom owned by certain communities tend to increase religious harmony, to reduce religious identification, and to increase the social boundaries between different religious groups. Ethnic group conflict theory mentions that the stronger the actual competition between ethnic groups at an individual as well as a contextual level, and/or the stronger the perceived ethnic threat, the more the mechanisms of social (contra-) identification will be reinforced, inducing stronger nationalist attitudes and exclusionist reactions. Religiosity in this study refers to concept of pluralistic views of religion and hermeneutic interpretation. Individuals who possess strong religious identification tend to support for religious intolerance due to extrinsic values of religious convictions may contribute to creating intergroup bias. As theoretical implication of this study is that resolving religious intolerance should use interdisciplinary approaches that consists of cognitive, religious, and cultural dimension. read more
